Sarah Field - saxophone / sacsoffon

Sarah Field studied trumpet & saxophone at the Royal Northern College of Music and Royal Academy of Music, London. She graduated with professional performance diplomas in both woodwind & brass, the only musician ever to do so.

In the year 2000, Sarah won both the Royal Over-Seas League Competition Main Solo Award for Woodwind & Brass and the Making Music Award for Young Concert Artists. These accolades brought Sarah into the limelight, leading to broadcasts on BBC Radio 2, ClassicfM & BBC Radio 3’s ”In Tune” which she now broadcasts regularly on.

Major festival invitations include the Cheltenham International, Edinburgh Fringe, Newbury, Brighton and Canterbury Festivals, along with solo appearances at Cadogan Hall, Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall (RAM Wigmore Award Finalist), St. John’s Smith Square (with pianist John Lill) and the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

As a soloist Sarah’s international tours have included New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, Belgium and has had recent performances in Brunei (with pianist Simon Lepper), Harare International Festival (with marimba player Mike Hamnett) and the USA (2007). Sarah was also awarded a Finzi Scholarship 2007 to travel to India with her “Indian Odyssey” project.

Performing regularly on a wide range of instruments Sarah has appeared with the BBC Concert Orchestra with Christopher Warren-Green, RTE National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Kwa Zulu Natal Philharmonic with Eno Shao and has performed dual concerto performances (sax & trumpet) with the Royal College of Music String Band.

Mae’n adnabyddus am ei pherfformiadau yn ogystal â’i dyfeisgarwch sy’n golygu ei bod yn comisiynu darnau newydd ac yn gweithio gydag ensembles anghonfensiynol.

Mae Sarah yn dysgu’r sacsoffon a’r trwmped ym Mhrifysgol Eglwys Crist Caergaint lle mae’n cyfarwyddo’r grwp sacsoffon a’r ensemble pres. Mae’n hyfforddwraig reolaidd yn y Coleg Cerdd Brenhinol, Neuadd y Gorfforaeth ac adrannau iau’r Drindod ac mae wedi arwain cyrsiau yn Ymddiriedolaeth Cerdd Benslow, Woldingham a Choleg Cerdd Leeds.
