Nick Jones - Soddgrwth / Cello

Nicholas Jones has had an extensive career as a chamber musician and recitalist. He was cellist of the Bochmann Quartet for 8 years and toured with them to many of the UK’s major venues and festivals.

He founded and was artistic director of a major International Music Festival and Summer School at Aberystwyth, Wales. He later founded the Musicfest Ensemble, made up of the festival’s resident artist/faculty; the ensemble toured Britain during the concert season and made several very successful recordings.

As recitalist and chamber musician, he has performed at major venues throughout the UK and in Europe and USA, including performances of the 6 Bach Solo Cello Suites at Festivals in the UK and Germany.

Other Chamber Music partners have included Jeremy Menuhin, Thea King, David Campbell, Raphael Wallfish, Alan Schiller, Anthony Goldstone and the Schidloff Quartet, with whom he has recorded for the BBC. He was principal cellist of the English String Orchestra for 8 years and toured internationally with the orchestra, under its Principal Guest Conductor, Yehudi Menuhin. He was also a frequent soloist with the orchestra, in concerts and recordings.

He is an artist/teacher on the faculty of the Bowdoin International Music Festival, in Maine, USA and has appeared at the festival’s New York Concert Series.

Nicholas is Head of Strings at Chetham’s School of Music, in Manchester, UK and teaches at the Royal Northern College of Music. He is also invited to give classes at the other major conservatoires.
