About the Concert at Musicfest:

This concert marks the 350th anniversary of the birth of Alessandro Scarlatti. At its centre is one of his most sensuous and magical cantatas, on the theme of the lover who sighs alone while nature sleeps. We also include some of his delightful songs, including one taken from a manuscript in the Aberystwyth University College Library. These are balanced by some fascinating, intricate music for strings by Purcell and Biber, and the whole is topped off with a selection of Purcell’s finest dramatic music.
