Wind Octet/Wind Chamber Course

Here is a wonderful opportunity for you to play a wide range of wind chamber music, and (if you wish) try out a solo piece in an informally-presented solo performance class, all in the idyllic coastal setting of Aberystwyth University, overlooking the magnificent Welsh coast and just minutes from the resort itself.

Two tutored chamber sessions per day will explore music for various combinations including wind quintet, octet and larger ensembles - these will be tutored and directed by Laurence Perkins (principal bassoonist with Manchester Camerata, with an international reputation for his solo work and recordings), with additional tutoring as required from other world-class performers who will be present during that week. Laurence Perkins will also be taking a daily 'solo performance' class, where you can use your favourite solo piece to explore aspects of musical performance and expression to enhance your orchestral and chamber music playing as well as solo performance. This session is entirely optional, and is presented in a relaxed, friendly manner - simply bring along a piece (with piano or unaccompanied) that you know well and feel comfortable with.

If you don't want to play in this class, you can sit in and listen to others, picking up a few helpful tips en route! Some of the chamber ensemble works rehearsed through the week will be performed in an informal end-of-week wind chamber concert.
