Now in its fifth year, the Musicfest Vocal Course offers a selected number of solo singers the opportunity to work in a relaxed and sensitively guided environment on classical vocal repertoire. The tutors, Veronica Veysey Campbell (soprano) and John Flinders (piano), regularly work together and have designed this course for the participants to gain a broader knowledge of vocal repertoire and greater confidence in performance and technique. The teaching will mostly be in masterclass-type sessions preceded each day by a vocal warm-up. There will also be some opportunity for private work with Veronica and this year’s Guest Tutor, Ron Morris, who will be with us throughout the week. Ron is a renowned Australian speech therapist and also a singer and is highly regarded for his inspirational work with singers.
All singers are invited to participate in an informal concert at the end of the week and there may also be other performance opportunities for some of the singers.
Veronica and John’s approach is informal, but always supportive and encouraging. It is a busy and vibrant week and we aim for everyone to leave with renewed enthusiasm for their singing and with improved skills. The course aims to cover many aspects of performance including: performance skills, technique, interpretation, style, communication, languages, musicianship, confidence building, experience of working with a pianist, and preparation for auditions.
The course is for singers of all ages who are serious about their singing and as a guideline the minimum standard is Grade 8.
New applicants will be require to send a live, unedited recording (CD/mp3) of two representative items which has been made within the last six months.
Following acceptance, all successful applicants will need to contact Veronica (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)) to discuss their individual repertoire which, as a guide are likely to be one each of: English art song, French mélodie, German Lied, operatic or oratorio aria, Italian song and possibly some musical theatre.
