Please contact Sophie Bennett for more information 01970 622338 Musicfest@aber.ac.uk Applications are invited from aspiring professional composers of all ages and abilities ; we may request information in support of your application. The course will consist of seminar groups and one to one sessions. Composers will also have the opportunity to prepare, prior to the course, a 5 minute work for large chamber ensemble/chamber orchestra to be rehearsed, read through and recorded by the Southbank Sinfonia. Every composer will receive a demo CD of their work to take home with them.
The course offers the opportunity for aspiring professional composers of all ages and abilities to work with leading Welsh composer John Metcalf (www.johnmetcalf.com). There will be sessions for the full group, seminar groups to explore specific issues and one to one meetings.
There will also be the opportunity to prepare in advance a 5 minute(approx.) work for chamber orchestra/large chamber ensemble to be rehearsed, read-through and recorded by members of the Southbank Sinfonia (http://www.southbanksinfonia.co.uk/). Information about two specific groups of chamber orchestral forces. each of up to approx. 15 players, will be available on application and participating composers will have the opportunity of preparing a work from within the instrumentation of one of these groups. Precise information about this work will be requested by June 30th and the composition should be brought to the course essentially complete and with all materials ready for rehearsal. The composer should, however, allow sufficient creative flexibility, supported where possible by notation software, to make changes as a result of seminar discussion or the rehearsal process. It is intended that every composer will receive a demo CD of their work to take home with them.
Early application is encouraged and Musicfest may, in certain instances, to ask you to supply scores and/or recordings to be reviewed in support of your application
