Applications are invited from aspiring professional composers for the Musicfest classical composition course. The course offers the opportunity for composers to work with leading Welsh composer John Metcalf (http://www.johnmetcalf.com). There will be sessions for the full group, seminar groups to explore specific issues and one to one meetings.
Up to six composers only will be accepted for the course. Those selected will also be invited to prepare a 5 – 7 minute orchestral work to be read through and rehearsed by the Orion Orchestra. An archival recording will be made for the composer’s use. Information about the precise orchestration will be available at the time of application. The composition should be brought to the course essentially complete and with all materials ready for rehearsal. The composer should, however, allow sufficient creative flexibility, supported by notation software, to make changes as a result of seminar discussion or the rehearsal process.
A final draft of the work should be submitted to Sophie Bennett at MusicFest no later than June 30th.
Early application is strongly recommended and Musicfest may, in certain instances, ask you to supply scores and/or recordings to be reviewed in support of your application
