Choral CourseTutor: Brian Kay
Daily Schedule: 9.30-12noon: Study Session 1 4.45-6.15: Study Session 2 This is a two-part course involving chamber choir and concert choir with the opportunity to prepare and perform two distinctly separate areas of the repertoire. The morning sessions will be for chamber choir and will consist of Bob Chilcott’s highly entertaining SINGING BY NUMBERS (OUP – ISBN 0-19-335519-1) and a selection of ENGLISH ROMANTIC PART SONGS (edited by Paul Hillier – OUP ISBN 0-19-343650-7) The early evening sessions will prepare and perform Vivaldi’s GLORIA (OUP – ISBN 0-19-338454-X) and Handel’s Coronation Anthems ZADOK, THE PRIEST and THE KING SHALL REJOICE (OUP – ISBN 9780-19-335263-6) It is expected that for the early evening sessions, the resident chamber choir will be augmented by local choral singers not involved in the summer school who would enjoy the opportunity of rehearsing and performing these popular works. The courses will include extensive work on many aspects of choral technique and presentation, with special emphasis on the clarity and meaning of text. Singers will need to bring with them copies of all the music to be prepared. Broadcaster, musician and former King’s Singer Brian Kay is conductor of Vaughan Williams’s Leith Hill Musical Festival, the Burford Singers near his home in the Cotswolds, and associate conductor of The Really Big Chorus. |
