Flute Course:
Tutor: Philippa Davies The minimum standard for the flute course should be post Grade 8 level We will start with warm up sessions each day to include improvisation, how to practise, comprehensive work on technique, posture, tone production, breathing, and articulation. We will also have some fun trying out 'extended techniques' to help our general technique and there will be work on orchestral repertoire for all those who would like. Everyone should prepare a minimum of three contrasted works from the main flute repertoire to study in the class; baroque, classical, romantic and modern, with piano accompaniment or solo. A list will be sent in the new year.A pianist will be available for one session each day. Studying these contrasted pieces will lead to discussion of style ,interpretation and especially imagination! There will be particular interest in chamber music so please bring your choices of music and anything you would especially like to play. We will explore flute ensemble repertoire and there will be the possibility of playing with the other wind players create wind trios, quartets, quintets, dectets and even mixtures of wind and string combinations. All course members should expect to play a short piece in a Showcase Concert on the final Saturday. Come and enjoy yourself with Philippa Davies!
